Strawberry Fruit Salad with Basil & Mint
This strawberry salad is refreshing and full of fresh herbs like mint and basil. It’s one of my favorite fruit salads, especially in summer!
For those that know me, I am a really big fan of fresh herbs. I grow them in my Aerogarden all year round. I love the freshness and brightness they bring, and even better when I can just clip a few cuttings right from my kitchen!
I also am a really big fan of the savory + sweet combo. Pretzels & chocolate? Yes. Pears & blue cheese? Yep. Strawberries & balsamic & goat cheese? YUP.
This recipe includes:
- Strawberries
- Cucumber
- Shallots
- Mint
- Basil
- Salt
- Pepper
- Olive oil
- Balsamic vinegar
- Goat cheese (optional)
- Honey (optional)
Just a little bit of slicing, dicing, and give the ingredients a big mix and you’re set! Very simple and delicious as a summertime fruit salad.
If you’d like to make this recipe as more of a traditional fruit salad, leave off the goat cheese. I like it there because it provides a nice tang but you do you!
Strawberry salad tips
Serving – This fruit salad is best served immediately after you make it. The balsamic vinegar tends to make the salad and goat cheese soggy the day after if you have any leftovers. The herbs will also not be as vibrantly colored either. I doubt you’ll have much left anyways!
Mind your knife cuts – Make sure to finely mince the shallot. You want to make sure they blend into the background of the dish so you don’t get such a harsh bite of onion! I also like to cut my cucumbers into rectangular shapes instead of the typical half moons. I like it looks pretty this way and it’s fun to play around with the textures!
